ASL MARCH/APRIL UPDATES - IMPORTANT!
Important updates from Coach Greg for the next few weeks:
1- SMOC We're hosting the Southeastern Meet of Champions next weekend from March 9-12. There will be several teams coming in from all over the area, bringing some REALLY fast swimming to Augusta. This is a big undertaking, and while not everyone will be competing, I'd like for everyone to be a part of the weekend in some way... Here's how:
-- We'll be offering Time Trials on Saturday- essentially a BONUS ASL Race Series event, but athletes will swim just ONE event- their favorite, something they want revenge on, whatever they choose. The pool will be all set up for the SMOC meet, and after prelims are over, we'll clear the athletes in the meet out, and then we'll come in, do a quick warm-up and get racing!!! I'd then STRONGLY ENCOURAGE everyone to stick around for Finals on Saturday night... It'll be a REALLY fun watch- the 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Fly and 200 IM are being contested, and we're doing loud music, walk-outs, and announcing the A finalists names, etc. It's going to be a great experience for ALL our athletes to see, and get inspired by.
-- We're hosting this event, and it runs from Thursday morning through Sunday mid-day. We're still looking for some Timers and volunteers on Thursday/Friday morning, but would take ALL the help we can get in any/all sessions.
-- Feel free to come by Thursday/Friday night or Sunday morning as well- we'll be here and swimming fast! We've got some Mixed Relays, 50s of stroke and distance races on Sunday morning, which will be a great way to end the weekend.
2- SCHEDULE With SMOC happening, we'll have some schedule adjustments...
-- Thursday March 9th- NO Augsuta practices, but anyone who wants to can head to Aiken for some water time- we'll have two options- 4:15-5:45 for any Junior/Senior athletes, and 5:45-6:55 for any AgeGroup/Development athletes.
-- Friday March 10th- NO practices anywhere.
-- Saturday March 11th- The Time Trials at Augusta, as described above. I'll be setting up a event for this TOMORROW, and you just register like you would for the ASL Race Series events, except you'll ask your athlete to pick their event from the list.
-- Sunday, March 12th- NO practices anywhere.
-- Monday, March 13th- Back to normal!
3- DIVISIONALS Turning the page, slightly, after SMOC is over, our next event will be DIVISIONALS in Athens, GA. We've got a LOT planned for this weekend- and we cannot stress enough how much fun it will be, especially the more follks who come... Strength in numbers!!!
-- March 20-23 will be ASL SPIRIT WEEK. We'll have special practices ALL WEEK, Monday-Thursday, leading into Divisionals. Each night will have some unique, fun, team building activities and some skills practices with the older/youngers athletes in the water together.
-- As we're expecting ALL members to be at Divisonals, there will be NO workouts from March 24-26 while we're in Athens.
-- Monday, March 27 will be a day off for ALL members, and especially our assistant coaches :-)
-- March 28-30 we'll be having some light workouts, but also having some GROUP Summer Planning Meetings, which we'll send some more details about as we approach the dates. Basically, we'll go over the season that was, and talk about the season that will be- Summer/Long Course Season!!! Coaches will also be helping you with any individual questions you have as to which meets your athlete(s) should be attending, etc.
-- We'll be on a short Spring/Masters break from March 31- April 10th... We'll pick things back up on April 11th, and move on to SUMMER!!!
It's been a GREAT Fall/Winter for ASL... we've grown, we've gotten faster, we've gotten BETTER, and I'm super excited about where this club is headed! Let's have a GREAT March, have some fun, swim fast and show the rest of Georgia what's coming for them!!!
